Teniidosis

53

Synonyms: "porcine chain, bovine chain, cysticercosis, finnosis, fidget, cenirosis"

Teniidosis is a collective name for cestodoses, the causative agent of which is the larval stages of the helminth of the class Cestoda, suborder Taeniata, family Taeniidae.

The localisation of the larvae is diverse and they parasitise skeletal muscles, tongue muscles, heart, liver and even the brain. Adult cestodes parasitise only the main host in the intestine, larval stages affect intermediate hosts (ruminants and ungulate animals), forming cysts/bubbles in organs and tissues.

Taeniata - as adults parasitises the intestines of humans (Taeniarhynchus saginatus, Taenia solium), carnivores (Echinococcus granulosus), and birds of prey.

Thoeniidosis of ruminants

Cysticercosis of cattle - larval stage of Cysticercus bovis, sexually mature cestode Taeniarhynchus saginatus (bull chain). The main host is man.

Cysticercosis of small ruminants - larval stage Cysticercus ovis, sexually mature cestode Taenia ovis parasitise the small intestine of dogs, foxes, pumas, jackals, etc.

Serous cysticercosis (tenuicollis) - larval stage of Cysticercus taenuicollis, the sexually mature cestode Taenia hydatigena parasitises the small intestine of the main host - carnivores.

Cysticercosis of reindeer and roe deer - larval stage of Cysticercus tarandi and C.parenchimatosa, C.cervi, adult cestodes Taenia krabbei and T.parenchimatosa, T.cervi. The main hosts are dog, wolf, fox, fox, cat, lynx.

Cenurosis (fidget, "brainiac") - larval stage of Coenueus cerebralis affects mainly the brain and spinal cord. The adult tapeworm Multiceps multiceps stage parasitises the small intestine of carnivores. The intermediate host can be humans.

Echinococcosis - larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus, adult E.granulosus, family Taeniidae, suborder Taeniata. The main host is carnivores (dogs, wolves, etc.) Cats do not grow to sexually mature individuals.

Thoeniidosis of pigs

Cysticercosis Cellulosae is the larval stage of Cysticercus cellulosae, the sexually mature cestode Taenia solium reaches 3 metres in length, rarely 6 metres.  Wild boar, camel, dog, cat, hare, monkey can be affected. Humans may have been an intermediate host.  In humans as an intermediate host, larvae are localised in the brain, eyes, subcutaneous tissue.

Serous cysticercosis (tenuicollis) - larval stage of Cysticercus taenuicollis, sexually mature cestode Taenia hydatigena parasitises in the small intestine of the main host - carnivores.

Echinococcosis - larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus larva, adult E.granulosus, family Taeniidae, suborder Taeniata. The main host is dogs.

Developmental biology: very similar. In the external environment with faeces are excreted segments, which are able to move and leave eggs. So with food on pasture, intermediate hosts swallow the eggs of the helminth. In the intestine there is a transformation of eggs into oncospheres, which through the mucous membrane are embedded in the blood vessels, and with the blood flow spread to various organs and tissues, where after a certain time become invasive. Infection of the main host occurs by eating infected meat and internal organs. Humans become infected by eating poorly heat-treated meat.

Symptoms: in intermediate hosts, digestive disorders, cardiac deterioration, oedema, ascites, muscle soreness, emaciation. In primary hosts, gastrointestinal disturbances, pain.

Diagnosis: in intermediate hosts on the basis of immunological diagnostic methods, as well as postmortem.

Treatment: in intermediate hosts, praziquantel-based preparations are the treatment and prophylaxis of the disease.

In primary hosts, treatment and prophylaxis is based on Anchor: #Anchor: #and mebendazole.
