Infectious dermatitis
13
Infectious dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin, with infection by bacteria or fungi, although mixed infection of opportunistic skin flora, combining bacterial and fungal infection, is common.
Causes of infectious dermatitis
Infectious dermatitis is more often a secondary factor (secondary infection) against the background of the underlying disease, but it can also be an independent unit causing dermatitis.
In various dermatitis, such as allergic or atopic dermatitis, a secondary infection is often attached, which complicates the disease to a large extent. Also infectious dermatitis can occur in diseases of internal organs (eg, liver) and systems (endocrine disorders, diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, etc.).
There are many causes of infectious dermatitis, and a veterinary dermatologist can help with the exact diagnosis and treatment.
Diagnosis of infectious dermatitis
Diagnosis is made on the basis of clinical examination of the animal, collection of anamnesis and additional diagnostic methods (smear, scraping, cytology, histology, bacteriological culture, blood tests and others).
Treatment of infectious dermatitis
Treatment of infectious dermatitis is reduced to the elimination of the underlying disease. Local treatments with antibacterial shampoos based on chlorhexidine are prescribed. In addition, antibiotics and other drugs may be prescribed to relieve symptoms and improve the condition of the animal (diet, antihistamines, vitamin complexes, amino acids, etc.).
