Eczema

Eczema is an inflammatory disease of the superficial layers of the skin. The course of eczema is differentiated between wet and dry eczema. The occurrence of eczema is associated with various factors:

contaminated skin;

action of chemical substances (household chemicals, plastics, etc.);

parasites (fleas, flea beetles, etc.);

mechanical impact (collars, muzzles, harnesses);

internal organ disorders (liver, gastrointestinal tract, etc.);

peculiarities of the type of nervous system, etc.

Types of eczema

Above described only the main factors and causes of occurrence. In reality, they are much more, so conditionally eczema can be divided into three types by the cause of the disease:

Traumatic type - occurs as a consequence of mechanical impact on the skin, for example, friction of the collar, reaction and combing to insect bites.

Reflex type - occurs in response to various irritants, usually occurs in an acute form. Irritants can be both external (hypersensitivity to household chemicals, plastic, pollution on the skin, etc.) and internal (diseases of internal organs, lack of essential substances in the body, etc.).

Neuropathic type - associated with the type of nervous activity, occurs against the background of stress or some viral diseases that give complications to the nervous system.

Often several types of eczema are the cause of eczema (e.g. friction of a collar with a plastic element).

Diagnosis is made by a veterinarian based on clinical examination and additional diagnostic methods.

Treatment of eczema in animals

Treatment is aimed at eliminating the cause of the disease (removal of the collar, elimination of contact with household chemicals, reduction or complete elimination of stress, identification of other diseases provoking eczema, etc.). Symptomatic therapy is prescribed, including antihistamines, topical treatments with shampoos, sprays and ointments, in some cases the prescription of antibiotics is indicated. If eczema is a secondary disease on the background of the main disease, the treatment is carried out in a complex therapy eliminating the underlying disease.
