Sarcoptoidosis

Synonyms: "Acarose, scabies."
Sarcoptoidosis is a disease caused by itch mites of the superfamily Sarcoptoidea, suborder Sarcoptiformes. The disease affects farm, domestic and wild animals and humans. The mites parasitise on or within the skin, feeding on lymph, tissue fluid, serous exudate and dead epithelium. Sarcoptoid mites are species-specific.
The superfamily Sarcoptoidea includes two families, Psoroptidae (Psoroptes, Chorioptes, Otodectes) and Sarcoptidae (Sarcoptes, Notoedres, Knemidocoptes), which cause the following diseases:
Psoroptosis
Chorioptosis
Otodectosis
Sarcoptosis
Notoedrosis
Knemidocoptosis
A single subspecies of Sarcoptes scabiei scabiei parasitises humans, transmitted only from person to person. "Scabies", which appeared in humans after contact with an animal, is more correctly called "pseudo-scabies", so it has a number of features and has a slightly different clinical picture.
Diagnosis in animals is made on the basis of a deep scraping.
For the treatment of farm animals, topical preparations (large-drop spraying), injectable preparations based on eprinomectin and ivermectin, and oral suspensions are used.
For the treatment of pets, local preparations, drops on the withers, tablet forms are used. The drugs of choice are means based on fipronil, cyfluthrin, moxedectin. In localised lesions, it is advisable to use a gel.
